Austin Acupuncture Celebrating 17 Years

It was official. 17 years ago on August 15th 2001 I got my acupuncture license delivered by the US post office from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

So I wanted to take a moment to thank each one of you who has visited and supported what we do here at the clinic (and those of you still just considering it. 🙂 ).

Many people were doubtful in the beginning that Austin would support something as crazy as an acupuncture clinic. Maybe they thought that Austin was too “conservative” for something as far out as acupuncture or “alternative” medicine. But I’m sure most have them have stopped laughing by now because it turns out that we have had a great run for the past 17 years.

Surprisingly enough, it was exactly those “conservative” types that have come for acupuncture; the retirees and farmers and the teachers and policemen and factory workers and immigrants, corporate execs, lawyers, doctors, daycare providers… and everyone in between. And each one of them has been a wonderful patient and learning experience for me.

Back them, 17 years ago, acupuncture was still pretty new to the area. So it was quite a social and financial gamble for these early patients who dared to come. For all they knew it could have been the quackery that many people told them it was. Not so much any more.

Since then, many highly respected institutions have thrown their support behind acupuncture and encourage its use. Organizations such as the VA and the US military, U of M,  the Mayo Clinic and all of the major hospitals across the country. And they support it because they know it works.

Acupuncture is definitely mainstream now.

And why do people come? They come for a whole spectrum of health issues, for sure. Of course the most common reason is pain of some sort; back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, carpel tunnel… but also many people come for things such as digestive issues, allergies, hot flashes, anxiety and stress relief, infertility and the whole list of gynecological issues. People also come for cancer support and even cosmetic acupuncture or even just for the sense of overall well being that acupuncture provides. Heck, some people just come in for their occasional “tune-up” because they like how acupuncture makes them feel. One gentleman who comes in once a month after getting out of work calls it his “acupuncture happy hour”.

Acupuncture is so versatile; it can be used as a rehab, a quick course of treatment to fix a nagging health issue, or even just for prevention to improve health. Because isn’t it better to prevent a problem than to try fixing it after it has become a huge issue?

I have been truly blessed for these past 17 years for the amazing people who have supported this crazy acupuncture idea of mine. People often think that this acupuncture thing is about me, but I know that it is actually about them; the patients. Some people think that this is “my” clinic, but I know better. I know that it is “your” clinic. I am just here to serve each one of those patients that come looking for help. Without the fantastic people who have been brave enough and supportive enough of what we do here, we would not have lasted all of these 17 years.

So to all of you who have ever came for acupuncture, Thank you! From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each of you for trusting that acupuncture would be helpful and valuable to you and your family. I honor and value that trust.

And now… on to the next 17 years!

We Made It !!!

Happy Spring Time!!!

March 1st is considered to be the first day of “meteorological spring”. Yay!!! Celebrate !!!

Yes, yes, I know officially spring doesn’t begin until 5:08 am on March 20th, but March 1st is still the day that the meteorologists have chosen to mark the second of four seasons (the others are June, September and December). Just go with it… they are scientists.

So what does this mean? It means that we have finally turned the corner and can consider crawling out from our snow cave of hibernation. It means longer days, brighter sun and an inner optimism that warms our heart. We have all made it through the harsh and unforgiving winter, so it is time to give thanks and celebrate.

Sure, sure, there will be a couple more snow storms, but there is no need to fret… because nothing can be better than a fluffy spring snow. Just think about the sledding and skiing you can do in 40 degree temperatures. 😀

So be sure to get out and enjoy these sunny, long days. Go for a long awaited walk and be sure to come in for your “spring acupuncture tonic”. Because there is no better time to get an acupuncture tune-up and get ready for the warmth and fun spring has to offer.

See you soon….

Jason

A Holiday Message

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas!!!

Jason here… full of holiday cheer!  And I’d like to tell you a little about that cheer.  But first… I have a bone to pick…

Personally, I think the holiday season is the best time of the entire year.  I have some pretty vivid memories celebrating the holidays as a child back in Massachusetts.  No matter what was going on… people came together and things just seemed great. Maybe you have memories, too.

But nowadays, things seem different.  Everything is so commercialized.  All big business and “Door Busters”. Yuck. I miss that personal touch and the days when just being together with family and loved ones was good enough.  You didn’t need to sleep in line… overnight… and fight thousands of people for the latest Elmo doll… or… whatever is big this year.

This letter is an attempt to bypass all that bologna! This letter also serves as your invitation to join me in doing something really worthwhile this holiday season. What?

If you know anyone (who hasn’t been in to see us before) suffering from back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, digestive problems, PMS, hot flashes, headaches, insomnia or even just holiday stress, tell him or her you are giving them a holiday gift.  Tell them about this blog post of Friends & Family Holiday Cheer and tell them to call before Christmas and they will get a consultation & treatment absolutely free.

As a gift from you! It’s like handing them $47! As always, we will do our best to make sure whoever you send gets the best possible care.         By reaching out and helping someone else, you will allow us to reach out and help, too.         And that’s what the holiday spirit is really about.

Also, over the next month or so, try to keep your sanity and not get overwhelmed by all the commotion or high expectations placed on us by others. Christmas is NOT about getting everyone the biggest, most expensive gift (or any gift for that matter). It is about spending time with loved ones and serving our fellow man. Christmas is about sharing our innate love which we all have inside of us by sharing our love and support, encouragement to those who need it.

So this year, give the gift of perhaps just a kind word to a stranger or a simple gesture of acknowledgment to someone who looks like they need it. As you go about your day, just remember that a simple smile or a “Hello, friend” may be the greatest gift they receive that day. Don’t be a scrooge… be lavish with those gifts of love and appreciation and acknowledgment of others this Christmas season. Because YOU are the greatest gift you can give someone; even a stranger. Don’t be shy… it’s Christmas! And be sure to also give YOURSELF those same kind thoughts and praises this holiday season.

Now… In keeping with the Wonderfully Gaudy American Christmas Tradition of Unbridled and Uninhibited Consumerism, I present to you our nifty “Acupuncture Gift Catalog”! I would be remiss if not to encourage you to consider spending some money on someone you love… including yourself for the gift of good health. Christmas can be the most stressful time of the years, So why not give YOURSELF a very special gift… a stress busting, pain relieving, full “body & souls” revitalizing session or two or three of acupuncture. In the “catalog”, you’ll see that I also provided an estimated number of sessions with each item. This is because acupuncture is rarely a “one stop miracle cure” and often is best used as a short term course of therapy. Healing takes time, and “nudging” it back into good health with several sessions of acupuncture takes a little bit of time too. As always, acupuncture is still the most affordable and effective form of healthcare in America today! So come in and feel the stress melt away before your eyes as you spend about an hour drifting off in one of Jason’s three comfortable treatment rooms.

I hope you have a great holiday season this year. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Best Wishes,   Jason

P.S. If you are “stuck” for gift ideas and still looking for a last minute Christmas Gift for a loved one; acupuncture makes a great present. We have Gift Certificates for single or multiple visits.

P.S.S And don’t forget our discounts if you pay for several sessions in advanced; 3 sessions for $127 (save $14), or 6 sessions for $242 (saves $40) or 12 sessions for $464 (saves you a whopping $100!!!).

Be Peaceful & Relaxed…

Stressed out and feeling kind of edgy? Join the club. Ours is a fast-paced, demanding world. The good news is acupuncture delivers composure in no time- if only you’ll take a moment to sit and enjoy some time with Jason. The mood-mellowing begins instantly with the calming aromas of lavender and citrus gently waft up as you enter our office. Ahhhh. With each visit, a blissful blend of your brains neurotransmitters laced with nerve-soothing endorphins, along with stress reducing dopamine that helps you chill out, unwind & relax. Simply come and breathe. Deep.

Stay Sharp & Focused

Brain drain? Feeling fuzzy when it comes to…um, what were we talking about? From names to numbers, we all tend to forget sometimes.  But you can do something about it. In fact – a lot of things. Keep your circulation humming with lots of long walks, try to learn something new every day, and a short course of acupuncture. Think of it as a prickly boost for your noggin. Sit back, relax and enjoy a new found level of focus. 6-12 sessions for best results.pexels-photo-372042
